THE ALUMANJIRIS: (SOJOURNERS)
What has become of me now I went through being a child. I took a step for a journey of a thousand miles. Let me stop here, am still going far and wide. Though haven't said anything yet, this might just serve as an introduction but let me put that aside.
Been to couple of places, so only experience can tell it all. I can imagine the pains and sufferings these children go through. The hustle for food, clothing and shelter, you can name them on and on. The battle to stay alive and live up to these expectations is what I figured out. These abandoned ones are not just ordinary children or random children as you may refer them. They are special in a way! They have been given a specific name and before I miss it out, they don't stay in one place.
They are referred to in the north or by the hausa people as the "ALUMANJIRIS" meaning "The Sojourners". These segregated set of people go about the streets. Like thunder, hunger strikes them and they look for what to eat. Finally when the night draws near, they look for where to lay their heads and sleep. They wake up again and begin another day's journey. As days go by, they are not even certain of their survival not talk less of what they rely upon.
These children live on leftovers, they go to the four corners of the streets, every restaurant and every house where they give out wasted food because they are not forgotten and they jump joyfully to it because that's their only means of survival.
Now the question is, who is to be blamed?
Who should take the full responsibility?
Should we talk about the parents who gave birth to them and sent them to the world they know nothing about at such an early stage? Then why conceive them, deliver them, then you are not capable to cater for them? Should we talk about the society who pretend not to hear the yearnings of these sojourners or they don't see them roaming about the streets whenever they drive in their siren cars and convoys making unnecessary noise even with their escorts who stay behind them like bodyguards.
Tell me something!!! Less I forget!
Where are the NGOs? whose sole responsibility is to pick them up when they come across them on the streets for proper welfare. Notable personalities are not left out, they are being obliged to take necessary actions and do the needful.
Government officials, NGOs, orphanages
the rich and well-meaning individuals should put them at heart.
Let's take them out of this so-called
bondage, engage them, re-orient their mindsets, change them for good, educate them, let them go to school. They have been brought to this world for a purpose. Let them grow up to become meaningful and respected persons in the society.
They are not to be pitied so don't tell them sorry. Help them to live up to tell it. It is their own story. Let's come together as one for these children to build up a larger territory. For better development, let them be included, as a nation's economic system is monetary. I hope my words are not too complex, It's self-explanatory!!!
